Terms of Service
Effective date: June 29, 2026
These terms apply to your use of Job Buddy, a free, open-source browser extension that autofills job application forms using information you provide. By installing or using Job Buddy, you agree to these terms.
What Job Buddy is
Job Buddy is provided free of charge as open-source software under the MIT License. It is maintained on a best-effort basis by an individual developer, not a company. There is no paid tier, subscription, or service agreement.
Acceptable use
You may use Job Buddy to autofill job application forms with information from your own profile. You must not:
- Use Job Buddy to submit false, fraudulent, or misleading information on job applications.
- Use Job Buddy to impersonate another person or submit applications on their behalf without knowledge and consent.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer or tamper with the extension beyond what the MIT License already permits.
- Use Job Buddy in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations.
Some websites and applicant tracking systems have their own policies regarding automated tools. You are responsible for complying with the terms of any platform you use Job Buddy on. Job Buddy does not represent or guarantee compliance with any third-party site's terms.
No warranty
Job Buddy is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of accuracy, reliability, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose. Use is at your own risk.
In particular:
- Job Buddy's field matching is based on automated heuristics. It is not guaranteed to correctly identify every field on every website, and it can fill a field incorrectly or miss a field entirely.
- You are responsible for reviewing every field Job Buddy fills before submitting any application. Job Buddy never submits a form on your behalf.
- Job Buddy does not verify the accuracy of the information in your profile. It reproduces only what you provided.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer of Job Buddy is not liable for any damages, losses, or consequences arising from your use of the extension, including incorrect or incomplete job applications, missed opportunities, or any other outcome. This applies whether such damages arise in contract, tort, or otherwise, and even if the developer has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Your responsibilities
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the information stored in your Job Buddy profile.
- You are responsible for reviewing and submitting your own applications. Job Buddy only fills fields for you to review.
- If you enable AI features, you are responsible for obtaining, securing, and managing your own Gemini API key, including any usage costs or quota limits charged by Google.
Intellectual property
Job Buddy's source code is available under the MIT License at https://github.com/myowinthein/job-buddy. The MIT License governs your rights to use, copy, modify, and distribute the source code.
The Job Buddy name, logo, and extension as distributed through the Chrome Web Store remain the property of the developer. The MIT License does not grant rights to use these in ways that imply endorsement or official affiliation.
Content you enter into your profile belongs to you. Job Buddy makes no claim to ownership of your data.
Third-party websites
Job Buddy operates on whatever website you choose to use it on. The developer has no relationship with, and no control over, any job board, applicant tracking system, or employer website. Job Buddy is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any platform it may be used on.
Cloud Backup (optional)
The optional Cloud Backup feature lets you sync your profile to your own Google Drive. When you enable it, your interaction with Google Drive is governed by your separate agreement with Google, including Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Job Buddy is not a party to that relationship.
AI features (optional)
The optional AI features use Google's Gemini API via an API key you supply yourself. When you use either feature, your interaction with the Gemini API is governed by your separate agreement with Google, including the Gemini API additional terms. Job Buddy is not a party to that relationship. AI suggestions can be inaccurate or inappropriate; you are responsible for reviewing every AI-suggested value before accepting it.
Termination
These terms apply for as long as you use Job Buddy. You may stop at any time by uninstalling the extension. The developer reserves the right to discontinue development or remove the extension from the Chrome Web Store at any time without notice.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the developer resides, without regard to conflict of law principles. If any provision is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated if Job Buddy's features change. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance. Material changes will be reflected in the Chrome Web Store listing.
